Troubleshooting in the area of safety device technology

Period:
mid 90s
Industry:
Banken
Project objective
Replacement of over 1000 defective units in the field
Project tasks
Project management, budget planning and expenditure tracking, internal and external communication, negotiations with the end customer and the service partners involved.

The aim of my project management was to deal with a design error in a peripheral device of the security technology of a major German bank. The defective devices were located in the logistics centers of the sales partners and the bank branches, where some of them were already in operation. My particular focus was on preventing damage to the company’s image.
Part of the comprehensive task was to contact all the departments involved and coordinate the necessary actions to replace and retrofit the devices. The project consisted of three phases and lasted one year. During this time, day-to-day business continued. Employee motivation was important, as the solution steps required commitment and additional work from them. So I planned all the necessary steps as far in advance as possible and minimized the workload for those involved through detailed work preparation. I commissioned three of the bank’s security partners to carry out the nationwide operations in the branches.

I supported them in processing and maintaining evidence, monitored adherence to deadlines and negotiated remuneration conditions. A competitor’s excessive demand led to the rescheduling of a project phase. However, I found an alternative in a very short time. As a result, there was no delay in the schedule. Finally, all documents and data were handed over to the service department so that they could refer to the knowledge gained in the event of queries or faults. The transparent handling of the problem at an early stage ultimately led to a positive reputation for the company.
